2018: the politics and science of nuclear warfare

In March of 2018 we hosted a panel with expert speakers Dr. Mathur and Dr. Thayer, both from the Department of Political Science and Geography, and Dr. Sooby Wood from the Department of Physics and Astronomy. It was a great multidisciplinary event covering a wide range of topics and viewpoints on nuclear warfare and technology. The panel had a great turnout demonstrating an interest and eagerness amongst UTSA students and the community.

2019: nationalism in international politics

In the spring 2019 semester, the Model United Nations Society hosted a panel on Nationalism in International Politics. Panelists included two professors from the Department of Political Science and Geography, Dr. Stefanova and Dr. Hofferberth, and one professor from the Department of History, Dr. Schneider. It was a great multidisciplinary event covering a wide range of topics and viewpoints on the history of nationalism, its role in global affairs, and the implications it has. The panel had a great turnout demonstrating an interest and eagerness amongst UTSA students and the community. The Model United Nations Society would like to thank everyone who came and the wonderful panelists for giving important insight on such a big topic.

 

2020: US-china security relations

Our expert speakers included Jon Taylor (Chair of the UTSA Department of Political Science and Geography), David Firestein (inaugural President and CEO of the George H. W. Bush Foundation for US-China Relations), and Wing Chung Ng (UTSA professor with research in Modern China, East Asia, and Migration History). We discussed how better trust between the U.S. and China can be fostered, as well as ideas on more productive discourse. The takeaway of the panel was to address issues at a people-to-people and global level.
